“Up the Guts” starts with a bang in New Zealand’s premier city. You’ll enjoy a full day in Auckland to spend as you please. Roady recommends catching the Ferry to Waiheke to explore the stunning beaches and vineyards of New Zealand’s most celebrated island. Other day options include: food & shopping in Ponsonby, exploring Rangitoto Island, relaxing on the beach at Mission Bay, take a stroll up Mt Eden for amazing views of the City.

Raglan

 

 

Raglan is a charming and naturally stunning surf town on the West coast of the North Island. You’ll enjoy two full days in Raglan to spend how you please. Roady recommends booking in a surf lesson with Raglan Surfing School at Karioi Lodge or Solscape Surf School, swimming at Ngarunui Beach, checking out the world-famous surf break at Manu Bay, having a beer at the YOT Club, and shopping through Raglans crafty retailers.

Waitomo

 

 

The Waitomo Caves are 30 million years in the making when the creation of limestone began at the bottom of the ocean. Now, these limestone formations stand as one of NZ’s most inspiring natural wonders. Roady recommends seeing the Glowworm Caves in some form. Whether it be a tour, such as the Waitomo Glowworm Caves & Ruakuri Cave Tours, or free access by taking the Ruakuri Bush Walk where you’ll see many shining glowworms through arches, tunnels, and limestone cliffs.

Rotorua

 

 

As soon as you catch a whiff of the sulphur-rich air you know you’re approaching RotoVegas. Relax into your time in Rotorua with a Polynesian Spa or dine out down the funky Eat Streat. Following a good nights sleep, you’ll enjoy two full days in Rotorua to spend how you please. Roady recommends seizing your days with some adrenalin-jammed activities including: Skyline Rotorua Luge, Tamaki Maori Village cultural show, Zorb Downhill Ball Rolling, and Whitewater Rafting.

Driving time to Taupo: 1 hour
On the road to Taupo: Check out Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, Huka Falls, and the natural hot springs of Kerosene Creek.

Taupo

 

 

Coasting down to Taupo breathe in the fresh air and look out over the largest freshwater lake in Australasia. Roady recommends getting out on the lake in some form whether it be sailing out to the Maori Rock Carvings, parasailing, kayaking, water skiing or fishing. Then there’s a number of adrenaline based activities you can partake in including: biking, bungy jumping and sky-diving.

Ohakune

 

 

Ohakune is a small town but it sure does pack a punch! Venture into the bike trails of the Old Coach Road, explore the native bush trails nearby, or canoe safari down the Whanganui River. After an adventure filled day you’ll be set for a relaxing dinner and a few drinks in one of Ohakune’s cool ski pubs such as the Powderkeg.

Day 2 in Ohakune provides you with the opportunity to hike the incredible Tongariro Crossing. Depending on your fitness level the trek will take between 6 – 8 hours. The next morning stretch those muscles and have a big Kiwi brunch at one of Ohakune’s welcoming cafes then get on the road as you head to Wellington in time for car drop off at Go-Rentals at 5pm.

Wellington

 

 

“Up the Guts” ends in the capital city of New Zealand. Explore the vibrant streets and take in the creative atmosphere of Wellington as you stay right in the heart of the city. Roady recommends Te Papa National Museum, Weta Workshop for all the Lord of the Rings fans, Oriental Bay and Beach, Botanical Gardens, Cuba Street shopping and coffee, and a stroll up Mt Vic for epic views of the windy city!

Car drop off: Day 9, by 5pm

After a 4 hour drive up the guts of the North Island, you’ll be set for a relaxing dinner and a few drinks in one of Ohakune’s cool ski pubs such as the Powderkeg. Day 2 in Ohakune provides you with the opportunity to hike the incredible Tongariro Crossing. Depending on your fitness level the trek will take between 6 – 8 hours.

Incredible team at Roady NZ. Roady NZ’s ‘Up the guts’ tour absolutely exceeded my expectations. An amazing way to meet new people and experience what our beautiful New Zealand’s North Island has to offer!
