Ash’s Review of Epic New Zealand Road Trip “Up the Guts”
Ashleighs-Review-of-New-Zealand-Road-Trip-Up-the-Gutz

The “Up the Guts” New Zealand road trip was the most epic, insane, action-packed, adrenaline pumping, sight-seeing, non-stop 10 days EVER. 1 Car, 5 Strangers, 7 Cities, 10 whirlwind days, 20-something coffees and a tonne of laughs!

It’s hard to know what to expect when you book a 10-day New Zealand road trip with 5 complete strangers. But after one day of travelling and living together, we went from small talking strangers to bonding over our love of morning coffee (which trust me, was a MUST to get through our massive days), into one happy little Roady family.

Over the 10-day trip from Auckland to Wellington, we saw and did everything…seriously…EVERYTHING.

Ash’s Highlights of New Zealand Road Trip “Up the Guts”

Tongariro Crossing

This is a MUST DO. The 19.4km hike starts with a walk alongside Mount Ngauruhoe before reaching the Emerald Lakes (the best lunch spot in New Zealand) and the Blue Lake, before descending down beautiful landscapes. We scored the most stunning day – no wind, no rain, the sun was beaming AND there was snow.

Truly one of those ‘pinch yourself’, ‘is this real life?’ kind of moments. A moment I never wanted to end (luckily it was 19.4km hey). I don’t even have words to describe the beauty of the Tongariro Crossing – you need to see it for yourself!

Rotorua’s White Water Rafting

OMG… we survived the 7-metre waterfall on the Kaituna River. This was the most unreal experience – one that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon! This gets your blood pumping, your heart racing and your mind blown! Such an amazing team at Rotorua Rafting. You feel so safe whilst having the most exhilarating, thrilling and spine-tingling morning on the water. I’ll be back!

Taupo’s Skydiving

One word: BREATHTAKING.

Lake Taupo is beeeautiful! Want the best view of the Lake? I personally suggest jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft. You are spoilt with stunning views. We jumped on a pearler of a day so we could see both sides of the North Island from Mount Taranaki over to the Hawke’s Bay! One full minute of free falling is the BEST. FEELING. EVER.

During your time under the canopy, you have 360-degree views of the magnificent Lake Taupo whilst having the time of your life. It literally took my breath away! This jump was my second skydive and continued the love and obsession. I just can’t get enough of the thrill!

Waiotapu’s Kerosene Creek

WOW. Nature at its finest. Kerosene Creek is a geothermally heated stream tucked away in an abundance of lush native forest. The sun streaming through the trees, birds chirping and warmth of the water creates a magical ambiance of pure relaxation.

Waitomo Caves

Hidden underground this magical place holds the beauty of stalactite and stalagmite displays and glowworms. Wandering through this stunning treasure makes you feel like you’re in another world. Absolutely SPEECHLESS.

These highlights are only a small portion of our ‘Up the Guts’ New Zealand road trip. I could write for days about all the other inspiring, wonderful and ridiculously unbelievable moments we had on this trip. Being a Kiwi, I know how stunningly beautiful our country is – however this trip opened my eyes to New Zealand’s true untouched beauty and I have fallen deeper in love.
